Until quite recently, it was said that the people living in the Tabolo village in northern Nigeria could only make a cellphone call if they trekked out of town. There, they could get a signal, but only one leaking over the border from Benin, turning a local call into an expensive international one. Still, it was better than nothing.
That’s a thing of the past, however, because the village now has a new cellphone tower, but not the kind of tower you’ll see in urban areas.
