Cloud: Gaming's new battleground

An era of peace is dawning across the kingdom as previously feuding tribes put aside their differences to band together in a coalition to thwart the threat from upstart challengers.

The world of video games isn’t one that stands still for long. Its history books are littered with household names, from Atari to Zelda. And it’s a place where diversity is par for the course, from casual gamers filling a few spare minutes playing freely downloaded, indie studio-produced smartphone games, through to professional e-sports players on multi-thousand-rand rigs competing in seriously funded, global tournaments.

The gaming market is a lucrative one. Last year, it generated $131 billion, with mobile gaming surpassing the revenues from PC and console games, according to research firm Global Data. The firm further forecasts that the total market could grow to $300 billion by 2025.
