IS THE SECURITY RENAISSANCE HERE?

Covid-19 pushed the world into the digital era. It’s also increased cybercrime threats. But this shift could be a chance to finally put digital security where it belongs – at the front.

Security has leapt to the forefront of business and technology discussions. The sudden surge in digital activities provides a vast array of targets for cybercriminals, resulting in the biggest leaps in such criminal activity in memory. But this new awareness around security can also be a boon, a chance to bring security into the pack leading digital transformation.

Indeed, this is a good time for security to change its reputation, says Itai Greenberg, Check Point’s VP for product management. “For many years, security was something that came after the fact. People developed their application and designed their datacentre, and only then did they start to think about how security fits in. And, for many years, security was the inhibitor that slowed down innovation in many ways. You contacted your security guy, and you asked, ‘Can I do that? Can I do this?’ And security would say, ‘Yes, but…’ or ‘No, you can’t’. That was a big issue. As we move towards digital transformation and the cloud, security should become all about innovation. “If it’s not, people will bypass security.”
