It’s a sunny March day in Cape Town and the great and the good of the local tech space have gathered in a gentrified building near the city’s Company’s Garden to witness the unveiling of Africa’s newest investment fund. Getihu has launched innovation hubs in both Cape Town and Lyon, complete with the usual whitewashed walls, excellent coffee and a love of innovation. But this fund is not pursuing the glamour investments of many of its equivalents, sucked into the excitement around taxi apps, Bitcoin remittances and the like.

This investment fund is focused on less exciting, but perhaps more scalable, Software- as-a-Service (SaaS) startups in the B2B space. South African HR tech startup Hi5 has developed a simple cloud solution that allows employees within companies to recognise and rate each other, freeing up management and HR teams from laborious administration. It measures appreciation, goals and culture by allowing employees to give continuous feedback.
