Zandile Keebine, Jeanette Theu and Tinyiko Simbine are the founders of GirlCode, a company dedicated to bringing the word of code to the ladies of the land. This startup took note of the lack of women in IT and decided to do something about it. That was back in 2014, and today, the company has grown from an idea to a successful non-profit organisation with impressive reach and plenty of success stories.

“I did an internship at a development company in 2014 and it was in this role that I was introduced to software development,” says Keebine, chairwoman of GirlCode. “I thought, `This is so interesting, I’m going to do this instead of mathematics’. I attended a lot of events during this time, and noticed that there were a lot more men than women. I asked my boss, `Surely this isn’t representative of the tech industry?’ It was.”
