The cyber city analyst

Now this is a job that will guarantee you an income for at least the next 10 years.

Automation, AI, machine learning, the Internet of Things, analytics and smart systems are shaking up the parameters of employment every day. Some jobs will disappear, other jobs will teeter on the edge, but there are a few, according to a study undertaken by Cognizant (‘21 jobs of the future’), that can assure you of at least 10 years’ job security. And one of these happens to be the role of cyber city analyst. It also happens to be so obscure, so out there, so new and fresh and shiny, that there aren’t a lot of people who even know what it is. In fact, it’s so rare a bird, it’s unlikely it will fly into South Africa any time soon. However, as ‘smart’ is coming to every city of the future, so too is the cyber city analyst.

“As countries progress and become more dependent on technology to become smarter and more efficient, it goes without saying that this role will grow in importance,” says Amin Hasbini, head of Global Research and Analysis Team for META, Kaspersky. “From a business side, this role is expected to play as an interface for businesses running inside smart cities, while from the government side, it will be separated into multiple roles in the future. This is because city technologies and responsibilities are highly diverse.”
