The year is 1983. The computer is War Operation Plan Response (WOPR). The young nerd is David Lightman (Matthew Broderick) and the delightfully buoyant girlfriend is Jennifer Mack (Ally Sheedy). The plot is hacking and there is one question that defines the entire narrative of the movie: Do you want to play a game?

The plot is simple. A cool videogame company has a game that David, our l33t hacker, wants to play. He launches a full-scale war dialling attack on Sunnyvale, where the game studio is based, in an attempt to get in, get the game and get playing. Instead, he finds something completely different, something that hopefully suggests a nice game of chess instead of his personal choice of Global Thermonuclear War. What happens next is Oscar nomination history…
