Calendar 2016: Winners take a bow

Twelve artists from around South Africa were this year again given the chance of interpreting South Africa’s top IT brands.

The concept is for the artists to create original works that represent something of importance for their sponsor company. The works – one for each month – are then printed in the ITWeb Brainstorm desk calendar.

Asanda Kupa, a 34-year-old artist who lives in Joburg’s city centre, was judged the winner at the event held in Johannesburg on Tuesday evening for his charcoal on paper triptych. The work depicts three figures striding through stark township scenes: a woman carries a bundle of screens, hard drives and keyboards on her head, a child pushes a load in a wheelbarrow, while the third panel has a man in a suit carrying bags of computer hardware.
