Discovery Insure’s Sne Dlamini

A recurring theme in a conversation with Sne Dlamini, the CIO of Discovery Insure, is how her company is striving to create a nation of great drivers.

It’s a big task, in a country notorious for road rage, drunk driving, unlicensed drivers, taxis that swerve across three lanes of traffic to pick up a passenger, and some police officers who won’t fine you for jumping the lights if you slip them a bribe. But, as Discovery’s own data demonstrates, bad driving is not limited to unlawful conduct. It also includes harsh breaking, harsh cornering, and other such bad habits. At least it gives Dlamini a huge opportunity to see if technology can get us back on the straight and narrow. The key to the plan is telematics, through IoT sensors fitted in the cars driven by the company’s clients, or enabled on their smartphone.
