Blame it on the president

The country is divided on how it feels about calls by a local forum to exclude white women from the current economic empowerment drive.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has unequivocally blamed certain issues relating to empowerment equity on South African president Thabo Mbeki, saying that his statements have created a platform for such discriminatory suggestions.

Speaking to Brainstorm  about newspaper reports, which suggest that the Black Management Forum (BMF) called for the exclusion of white women from employment equity, DA spokesperson Anchen Dreyer said she holds president Mbeki personally responsible for creating an environment in which this kind of thinking is acceptable.
