Together we’re changemakers

Allow yourself as a leader to be vulnerable in order to be empathetic to your employees’ needs.

When it comes to women in ICT, women bring a lot of passion and empathy to any role. “Women need to market themselves better in the ICT industry and realise that whatever role they are currently in, that they are touched by ICT and that ICT capabilities are enabling them to perform and excel better in their roles”, Thandeka Chabane, General Manager, MTN Business Client Services.

Customer Experience and people form part of my overarching passion in this industry. This could account for her being a loved leader and an admired executive. She stresses that people bring grit, adaptability and resilience and, without people, there would be no ICT and certainly no innovation. With a career that has been in telecommunications since graduating from university in 1999, Chabane is very much a leader by example and an extraordinary collaborator. She says it’s critical to have a very clear vision so that every member of the team embraces the vision and understand their part in it.
