ADVERTORIAL: KEEP WOMEN IN THE ICT PIPELINE

Sasol’s CISO Itumeleng Makgati believes women bring important balance to the world of IT and have the capacity to create opportunities and space for other women.

A passion for technology and using it to solve business problems has been a key driver in the 20- year career of Itumeleng Makgati. From being a technologist with a leading mining corporation and a consultant with a global Management Consulting entity, her role has evolved to where it is today – as an opinion-leader in the ICT community and respected member of the Sasol executive team.

The perception of ICT has evolved in some ways similarly to the way the perception of women in ICT has. Itumeleng says that when she joined Sasol in 2015, at the time, the focus was more about ‘keeping the lights on’ and ‘let’s run IT as we have run it’ and not looking at adopting new technology unless essential. The importance of a role in ICT was not yet recognised.
