What the future holds for EOH

After a period of stellar growth and stock market performance, a troubled couple of years culminate in the termination of EOH’s partnership agreement with Microsoft.

Stephen van Coller has been styled by many as the ‘saviour’ of EOH. His strong experience leading large, complex organisations, and his reputation as one of the top investment bankers in Africa, certainly help. But, before we even consider whether Van Coller is able to save EOH, we must look at what he would be saving.

What is EOH at its core? There’s no magic widget it makes that no one else can, no vastly differentiated IP. It is, at the most basic level, a collection of people. It’s no surprise, then, that Van Coller has prioritised retaining staff, in between the chaotic mop-up he has led since September.

Murmurs in the market suggest that EOH has lost a ‘lot’ of ‘good people’ in recent months. Just how true this is, particularly with regards to its top people, won’t be seen for a while yet.
