One of the key reasons behind public-sector hesitancy about the public cloud is the issue of security, and particularly data sovereignty. However, as research by Oracle and KPMG last year shows, 75% of organisations now see public clouds as more secure than on-premise alternatives.

The move towards a cloud-first approach in government’s draft cloud policy, which came out in March 2021 for comment, is a welcome sign that the cloud’s inherent advantages are very much in the public sector’s mind.
