Hanging onto the cash
Comparex, one of South Africa`s two traditional IT giants, seems to be coming out of the IT downturn better than most. Its main headache lies in its shareholding.

Comparex CEO Peter Watt may not have much to say about the group`s shareholder issues, but he is quite sanguine about the outlook for IT spending in South Africa.
He bases this view on the experience of previous cycles. “If you go back to 1988 to 1989, pretty much the same thing occurred. The industry was all fallen down, but it did turn around, very strongly. It would not be the most extraordinary thing if this were to happen again,” Watt comments.
