Will Dlodlo be a firestarter?

The Department of Communications has yet another minister.

28 June 2017

Ayanda Dlodlo, SA’s latest communications minister, is an unknown quantity. She’s coming into the department after being deputy minister at the Department of Public Services and Administration (DPSA). Dlodlo – the second minister to be at the helm of the department in its reconstructed format – was appointed after a wide-ranging, although not unexpected, cabinet reshuffle late one night at the end of March.

Thrust into the limelight, her biggest task is to finally get the extremely overdue migration to digital TV going in a meaningful way. Although there is very little known about her, commentators do not expect Dlodlo to be the firestarter who finally gets the department on track after its past inertia.
