Those who should be most concerned about online security - banks - are as good as Microsoft is at preventing users from making important security choices.

"Internet Explorer is just too risky," trumpeted the headline in BusinessWeek on 29 June 2004. Influential columnist Stephen H Wildstrom wrote this in response to a recommendation from the US Computer Emergency Readiness Team to use a browser other than IE. It cited a particularly nasty bug with only half a fix, and noted several other "significant vulnerabilities" in Microsoft`s browser.
