How African ed-tech solutions came to the fore during Covid-19

The global Covid-19 pandemic has been, on the whole, devastating, but there have been the occasional positives. Zoom’s shares, for one. And the speedy development of the African ed-tech space.

Compared to their more illustrious peers in areas like fintech, logistics, and agri-tech, African ed-tech startups have occupied somewhat of a backwater for the last few years. There has been relatively little investment in the space, and products have struggled for scale as the demographic they could most benefit – rural African schoolchildren – remain tantalisingly disconnected from the internet.
