Every year, Las Vegas hosts two back-to-back conferences aimed specifically at the cyber security geeks of the world. DEF CON and Black Hat attendees don’t have to register, they pay for tickets in cash and they can use pseudonyms. These are not illicit conferences, but, instead, an opportunity for people to get close to the cyber security coalface.
On occasion, the conferences make headlines with a sensational new security find, such as 2015’s revelation that hackers could remotely access and control a popular SUV. This year included hackers taking over a car wash.
