Finalists in the categories of the African ICT Achievers Awards, honouring companies and youths who have shown originality in the use of ICT in 2005, have proved that Africa is alive with innovation, but the winners showed that South Africa truly has the potential to become a global leader in technology development.

The Youth Innovation Award recognises a student of an ICT discipline for innovative use of ICT, requiring nominees – not older than 25 – to have introduced something new in technology and used this innovation to support fellow students and the broader community. Judges also considered whether the innovation showed creativity and potential for future development as well as the challenges and achievements of the nominee in developing the innovation.
