ORACLE TAKES CLOUD TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Oracle is making good use of its delayed entry into the cloud arena to offer a solution that is tailored to what enterprises actually need.

“Essentially, Oracle gave some great cloud engineers carte blanche to design something that took into account their past experience,” says Roy Illsley, Chief Analyst: IT & Enterprise at Omdia. “The result, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), has certainly boosted Oracle’s position in the cloud universe.”

JP van Tiggelen, Sales Strategy and Program Lead: EMEA, Oracle, says that large enterprises with significant investments in on-premise technology need something more when they look at cloud. “OCI—the second generation of cloud—addresses all the concerns of enterprises, differentiating OCI quite distinctly from some the of the more established cloud service providers,” he says. OCI has been designed from the ground up to be secure. In particular, OCI is applying the concept of virtualisation in a totally different way, using so-called off-box virtualization: neither users nor Oracle administrators can access each other’s environments.
