Podcast hosting startup Pippa, founded by two South Africans, was recently acquired by Acast. Here’s how the young company hopes to revolutionise advertising for the audio format.

Podcasts have been around since the early 2000s, but it’s only in the last few years that the medium’s popularity has skyrocketed. The rise in production values of podcasts closely correlates with the rise in popularity; no longer are podcasts made in garages with on-board laptop mics, but, rather, there are media companies that exist to create multiple quality podcasts with large budgets and famous personality hosts.

The audio files – which are packaged and syndicated over RSS – are accessible via several apps, like iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher or Acast.
