Who's watching the gatekeepers?

Access to commercial and residential properties is often dependent on handing over identity details. But in an age where data leaks are common, what’s happening with the personal information held at the guard hut or reception?

A great deal of focus around compliance to the Protection of Personal Information (PoPI) Act has been on IT security to protect personal information held by companies. However, the processing of personal information by security guards, the companies they work for and those supplying their scanning devices and those looking aft er the databases, raises a few questions.
