Chinese tech companies are getting caught in the crossfire of a US-China trade war. Does it affect South Africa?

With the US-China trade war heating up, Chinese companies like Huawei and ZTE are firmly in the crosshairs as US President Donald Trump’s anti-China tactics spread to allies. While the impact on South Africa remains minimal for now, rising tensions between the superpowers don’t bode well for anyone.

In July 2018, Trump followed through on months of threats to impose sweeping tariff s on China for its alleged unfair trade practices. The latest figures show US tariff s now imposed on $250 billion of imported goods from China; China has retaliated with tariff s on $110 billion of US goods.
