Some IT companies have fallen on hard times and recovered, but almost without exception the survivors had to make drastic changes to their approach and very often, their business model as well. A contemporary example is German software manufacturer, Software AG.

Wikipedia reports that the company is best known for its Adabas database management system and more recently for the Tamino XML server. “Software AG provides a real-time single view of strategic business information by integrating applications and systems, in addition to modernising mainframe and open system IT environments. Its offerings are based on the product families Adabas, Natural, EntireX and Tamino.”
