A feisty advocate for the underdog

When Lynda Odendaal talks about women empowerment, it has the ring of authenticity. Her own journey to the top as CEO of Network Support Services started on an assembly line in an Eastern Cape factory.

The daughter of “hardworking factory people”, Odendaal will never forget one particularly memorable exchange between her mother and a male colleague at a motor accessories manufacturing plant. “My mom was told that her place was in the kitchen at home, pregnant.”

Her tiny but feisty Scottish mother, then a factory supervisor, didn`t take very kindly to this comment. “She nearly hauled him across the table!”
