Organisations still struggle to integrate the demands of users with existing IT strategies.

05 October 2016

It seems it’s impossible to have a discussion around technology without the concepts of digitisation and mobility coming up. The question at the fore of many CIO’s minds is how to cater for the demands that are being placed on them by both internal users and customers while still keeping legacy equipment up and running. While this may seem simple on the face of it, the majority of IT budgets is still focussed on ensuring that existing applications – those that keep the business turning over – stay up and much of the innovative technology development has to be funded from what remains.

Kamal Ramsingh, Technology leader at Deloitte Cosulting Africa, believes this is a reality for most CIOs in South Africa today. “The biggest challenge is the push from the business to digitise and ‘sexify’ the user experience, but the majority of the budget goes into the maintenance of the legacy systems,” he comments.
