Launched in early 2015, the Cape Town-based nautical-themed Drifter Brewing Company has built a reputation for innovative craft beers, but the company is pioneering in another way.

From its premises in Woodstock, Drifter has played a key part in the advent of a crowdfunding revolution. In 2018, it became the first company to successfully raise funding via a new equity crowdfunding platform in South Africa named Uprise.Africa, securing R3 million to help expand into new markets.
