Mainstream adoption of electric cars may not be far off.

The high-pitched whine of electric powered cars is set to become a lot more common on South African roads over the next few years. Although only a handful of fully electric vehicles (EV) have been sold in the country since their introduction five years ago, sales are expected to grow as more car manufacturers plan to bring electric models to SA in the near future.

However, this depends on promises by stakeholders and government to increase the charging ecosystem, one of the reasons cited for electric cars not catching on in the country thus far.
