Forget the lecture hall; the Orbit jazz club is the place to go to expand your brain. The club in downtown Johannesburg draws a young and racially diverse crowd for its monthly Science & Cocktail evenings. It was standing room only recently when Bhekisipho Twala, a director of the newly-formed Institute for Intelligent Systems at the University of Johannesburg, gave his talk on big data.
