Changes to the way intellectual property is dealt with could see South Africa attracting foreign investment.

Wannabe Mark Shuttleworths may be given a boost when it comes to taking their intellectual property overseas. In addition, new opportunities will be opened up for South Africans to collaborate with international software companies, which paves the way for foreign direct investment into the country.

This is thanks to then Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s announcement during his February budget speech that intellectual property will in future no longer be subject to exchange controls.
