The coming bandwidth glut

One way or another, we`ll get the bandwidth we need for the 2010 World Cup. Pity it took national pride, rather than the needs of us commoners, to achieve this.

Once our turn to host the world`s biggest single-sport jamboree is over, and we`ve all sobered up, we`ll turn to figuring out what to do with billions of rands worth of infrastructure.

That the government will come up with the billions needed to finance all this construction is hardly in doubt. The alternative will be national embarrassment, and our government has bravely shouldered the mantle of responsibility to show the world: “Africa can do this.”
