The city finally finds a fit

Johannesburg straightens its drawers by appointing Patrick Mayaba as its CIO.

01 August 2006

After much ado concerning the position and who best to fill it, the City of Johannesburg this month appointed Patrick Mayaba as its CIO.

The controversy surrounding the position and appointment of a suitable candidate emerged when Heather Fuller resigned from the post after serving less than half of her one-year contract. Although the city could not explain why Fuller left, it was saddled with the task of filling that post quickly as it had to stay on par with other municipalities in terms of development.

Formerly the GM for information systems at City Power, Mayaba was appointed acting CIO upon Fuller`s resignation. During this time, another CIO was appointed, but after having gone through the whole selection process, the candidate unexpectedly declined the position.
