Shaune Bouwer’s CV doesn’t read like that of a traditional CIO. His qualifications are quite broad, including a Henley’s MBA, an Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, a Six Sigma Green Belt, and a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) from the University of Pretoria.

He also doesn’t talk about technology. Despite being the CIO of Vumacam, a seemingly technology-centric business, the conversation with Bouwer starts with and sticks to topics such as employee engagement, customer value and creating the best type of workplace. But this focus on people is no accident.
