Creating a legacy

Alexander Forbes’ Sandra La Bella has made the classic progression from developer into the CIO’s office. In the process, she has learned a lot and is eager to pass it on.

14 October 2019

Sandra La Bella, Alexander Forbes’ new CIO – she’s only been in the job since October 2018 – creates an immediate impression of great energy, intensely focused on the job at hand. It’s this combination that has seen her progress from developer to CIO, and is certainly in full evidence as she embarks on revamping Alexander Forbes’ IT.

La Bella quit Absa after 12 years at the end of September, where she had been both CIO and programme director, planning to take a three-month sabbatical. After only a week, she found herself back in harness at Alexander Forbes, initially in a caretaking role. The new CEO, Dawie de Villiers, asked her to take on the job permanently at the beginning of the year, and she accepted the challenge.
