The economics of silence

What the media doesn`t talk about, the business world wants to hear about. Gaps in the news can translate into gaps in the market for entrepreneurs that read between the lines.

The news is rarely kind to Africa. Often it is accurate. But it can also be biased, negative, distracting and noisy. And injustice is also done to the continent when the media is silent about good deeds.

Why is it little is said of the paucity of good news about the continent? The rare nuggets of good news are usually buried deep within columns of type on dictatorship and corruption. The adage that no news is good news would seem to be true for Africa. For there is good news out there – and it can presage important investment opportunity.
