Sometimes they come back

We all get things wrong from time to time and, it seems, Brainstorm is no exception.

We all get things wrong from time to time and, it seems, Brainstorm is no exception. Our second issue, in September 2001, featured a cover photo of Jay van Zyl, co-founder of Rubico, one of the firms selected for an article on small and medium-sized IT companies most likely to achieve fame and fortune internationally.

However, Rubico has fallen on tough times lately, and it was recently reported that its shareholders were assessing different alternatives. Brait director Bruce MacRobert, who heads up Rubico shareholder Brait Technology Fund, says the company ran into trouble when a major contract with an offshore client fell through. If shareholders do not come up with a viable rescue plan they may be forced to put the company into liquidation, he admits.

Rubico is still active, although its operations have been scaled down. Van Zyl is no longer at the company, having started a new research and consulting business, Systemic Logic. Perhaps he`ll make it big there.
