Comair's turbulent IT journey

Having been in operation for over 70 years, carrying six million passengers and boasting over 44 000 flights per year, a recent GRC baptism of fire has finally put IT back on the airline’s map.

* Comair entered business rescue on May 5, after it became clear it could not recover R790 million which it was owed from SAA, which itself went into rescue in December 2019.

It’s been a difficult, but exciting three years at JSE-listed Comair, said Lonette Genis, IT Security and Governance, Risk & Compliance manager, as she shared a frank account of the 70-year-old company’s laboured journey towards digitalisation – and specifically its hard-fought struggle to prioritise IT.
