Proving provenance

Tracking conflict minerals through a supply chain is a complicated process, and you’re going to be collecting a lot of data.

The problem of provenance is as old as the hills. In ancient Greece, some olive oils were said to be mixed with inferior fats. It appears that not much has changed over the years as a large amount of today’s Italian extra virgin olive oil is neither virgin, nor Italian.

The difficulty with olive oil and other things, particularly conflict minerals, is that the good is mixed with the bad at some point in the supply chain. Now, for the first time, it’s thought a mix of technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence will keep everyone honest.
