The announcement was made in July last year that semiconductor firm Broadcom had entered an agreement to acquire CA Technologies for $18.9 billion. The deal received regulatory clearance in November. Since then, some of CA’s services functions have been outsourced to HCL and CA’s 2017 acquisition of Veracode Software jettisoned to Thoma Bravo for $950 million.

The deal took many analysts and industry experts by surprise. The Register even headlined the news with ‘Weirdest. Acquisition. Ever. Broadcom buys CA Technologies.’
