Big Blue and Red Hat: a clash of cultures

IBM’s acquisition of Red Hat is one of the biggest tech deals to date – it’s certainly in the top three by value – but it's a deal involving two very different companies.

Having been around for over 100 years, IBM is one of the most established companies in the tech industry, but it’s not been in a good place for a while.

Its market position has been steadily declining for a number of years, due largely to it being very slow to react to what's happening in the market. Its cloud presence has declined as the market share of its hyperscale rivals has boomed.
