Wired worriers

Online bank 20Twenty has spent four months languishing under curatorship; yet in that time, remarkably, there has been only one resignation from among the 46 Wired Warriors – the company`s frontline interface with the public.

Stories like this might be commonplace from the likes of Apple or HP spin-off Agilent, but South Africa`s IT world has been largely unaware of how 45 Wired Warriors have stuck by the 20Twenty management team through parent bank Saambou`s curatorship and subsequent acquisition by FNB – sans the fledgling online offering.

The story behind the public events of Saturday afternoon, 9 February, was dramatic. The Warriors, all of whom are 20Twenty clients themselves, were told by manager Michelle Möller late on Saturday that the bank was under curatorship and all funds were frozen. By seven that evening, the entire workforce of 20Twenty was at the Cape Town offices. This was just as well, because in the first day after the news hit the streets the 20Twenty website forum had received over 600 postings.
