New age businessman

After a day of nurturing keen young minds and growing a brand new enterprise, Pfungwa Serima goes home to help change nappies. But Accenture Technologies Solutions` new CEO is no softie.

30 July 2002

Pfungwa Serima oozes competence and affability, but still strikes one as a man who doesn`t suffer fools gladly. Which is just as well, since he has just been put in charge of a new venture tasked with supplying the ICT industry with the most effective core skills available on the market.

“Imagine you want to hire a driver,” he says. “You need just that – a good driver. Not a driver who is also a qualified mechanic and an engineer to boot. Such a highly qualified person would cost you far more than you should pay for a simple driver. In South Africa, the consulting industry tends to supply over-qualified people and charge accordingly. What we aim to do is supply excellent core skills to meet industry demands within the Accenture space, at a reasonable price.”
